The 2017 Exe Sails and Covers Roadford Rocket kicked off again on Sunday 26th February at Roadford Lake. It was a chilly, and gusty day, threatened by storm Ewan. That is the challenge facing SW sailor Ken Fowler, Vice Commodore of Highcliffe Sailing Club in Dorset. Ken is attempting to become only the second person to complete such a feat in a single handed dinghy as he travels up the west coast of Cornwall, Wales, NW England and finally onto Scotland and John O'Groats. The twenty-fourth Exe Sails and Covers Starcross Steamer was held on Sunday February 5th. This was the first race of the South West Series; the next will be the Roadford Rocket to be held on Sunday February 26th and the final race the Wimbleball Beastie will be on Sunday March 19th. The Exe Sails Starcross Steamer took place on 5th February and yet again proved to be a great success. The weather though chilly, remained dry and a good breeze kept up throughout the event. The first boat, a Mirror skippered by Eric Taylor and crewed by Aoife Mooney was the first to set off at 11.00. The final starters, two RS 800 started a whole hour (and three minutes) later!
