SWYSA Sailors take top 8 places at Torbay regatta
The eight top places at the Royal Torbay Yacht Clubs junior single handed regatta all went to South West Youth Sailing Academy (SWYSA) sailors. Tera Sailor William James (10) came first closely followed by Topper sailors Miles Ripley (12) and Toby Bloomfield (13). What a fantastic event, two Mirror championships back-to-back, 51 entries in each event, 6 countries sailing in the Worlds & all happening on the beautiful sailing waters of the Carrick Roads, near Falmouth, with some typically varied Cornish weather and lots of wind. Lyme Regis Sailing club held their Regatta Series handicap and Championship of the Day races, 17 in all, over two days at the weekend, in ‘champagne sailing’ conditions. LRSC members were joined by 12 visitors in the RS800 class, Merlins, and Fireballs practising for their imminent championships. The morning after the famous Scorpion fancy dress party is always a delicate affair. This years theme of 'Pop Stars Dead or Alive' did not fail to deliver on costume creativity and daring dance moves. Well it was July after all so it should have been expected that the first day of the Byte National Championships should be cancelled because of inclement weather!
