Introducing... Portishead Y&SC and Round 6 of the SSW Winter Series - The Channel Chop
Portishead Yacht & Sailing Club was founded in 1955 by a small group of local enthusiasts, all they had was a beach to launch from. Slowly over the years compounds, a slipway and clubhouse were built. We sail on tides that are the 2nd highest in the world, which is both challenging and exhilarating!
We are a regular racing club plus a bit of cruising, with some fantastic long distance races and cruises to Shirehampton or the sandbanks for lunch and a game of cricket.
The up and coming events this year are:
Severn Bridge race Sat 9th June (Staggered Start)
Pill race Sat 23rd June (Staggered start)
Lloyd Fryer Memorial pursuit Sun 16th September
The Channel Chop is being run for the fist time this year, as the club was invited by Southwest Sailing to hold a winter pursuit at Portishead Yacht & Sailing Club. Why the Channel Chop? This name was chosen as a name that represents the typical wave conditions produced by the wind and tides that we get just off of the club.
