Due to the poor forecasts for the weekend, the Starcross Steamer has been called off. A message to all competitors from the race organisers reads:
"Following extensive debate with other club officers, it is with great reluctance that I have decided to cancel the 29th Exe Sails Starcross Steamer.
The wind forecast for Sunday is now consistently indicating that the gusts will be in the region of 35 mph, which although may be sailable for a minority, it is not race able. The WNW wind direction will offer sheltered launching from the club, but the race area will get the full force of the wind. Looking forward to next year, the 30th Steamer will be held on Sunday January 19th, HW is at 13:19 and height 3.2m; the first start will be at 12:00.
Thank you for offering to help me run the Steamer this year, I’m sorry I’ve had to cancel it at short notice. I will be asking for your help again next year, I will start the planning in the autumn."
We look forward to this historic event returning in 2020.
